This is the second offering in my series of Niche projects. Each niche is specific to a period of interior decor. This time, it's my favorite, the Edwardian Era.
The project is broken into three classes, the niche, the doll, and the chandelier. You can participate in one, two or all three. (a discount is offered for the package of three classes)
In each Niche, I try to present new treatments and techniques for wall decor and fllooring. This time, we will be making a gorgeous hardwood floor in a herringbone pattern. An inset border of walnut is a lovely accent.
Walls this time are very special too! I researched and fell in love with this very simple, but elegant wood panel style. Clean lines and a clean color showcase the feel of the Edwardian Era. All things were simplified after years of Victorian Clutter! I wanted the wall covering to be very special, so rather than paper, I will be providing you with custom wall covering that I have printed on SILK fabric. I wish you could see the beautiful sheen that this gives, but the photos just don't share that detail well.
As always, Bespaq has provided us with exquisite furniture pieces. These are custom pieces, not available elsewhere. THe gorgeous light walnut dresser features extensive carving, and of course all drawers open. The tiny accent shelves on either side of the mirror are just perfect for a favorite perfume bottle.
A coordinating balloon back chair is also included, and we will be reupholstering the seat in fabric to match the silk wallcoverings.
Please note that the vanity accessories, perfumes, photo, purse, gloves, etc are for display only and are not included in the kit.
The niche is a small shelf size project, measuring just 12 1/2" tall, 9 3/4" wide and 5" deep. .
It comes to you with a prewired ceiling, and chandelier adapter so that you can add the lovely chandelier, or use one of your own. You will need a transformer, or one can be ordered separately. Frame molding around the front provides channels to hold a plexi-glass front to keep your setting secure and free from dust.
The chandelier I have designed for this project is quite elaborate, with lots of gorgeous Swarovski crystals and drops. I used Swarovski's Light Rose crystals, which coordinate beautifully with the wallpaper. A single grain of wheat bulb lights the center of the fixture. Candles do not light. A 6 light chandelier would be too bright for a small setting like this one, so our custom design is just perfect.
And of course, this Niche needed a special doll. This doll has proven to be the most complex doll costuming project I have undertaken, but I have made it into a very easy project for you to complete, with stunning results. I found photos of an original Edwardian era gown on the internet, and once I saw it, I knew it had to be the dress for this project. The gown features a deep rose silk under dress. Over this, silk chiffon panels are gently draped. Short chiffon panels form the empire bodice. These panels have been extensively embroidered, in a very close replica of the design used on the original gown. Embroidery on silk chiffon is no easy feat, but here, it's all done for you! You won't need to sew a stitch!!Delicate silk netting sleeves, a short train, and lovely swarovski crystal necklace complete the ensemble. I truly think that this doll project is a unique and exceptional piece. I have used my Abigail face for the sample, but you are welcome to select your own face from among my ladies. Your choice of hair and eye color is also offered.
Niche kits will ship mid August. Doll and chandelier kits will ship at the end of August. Online classes will be held throughout the month of September. Because the furniture is in limited quantity, the class size will be limited. Don't delay, register soon, as this class is a sure sell out. If you have any questions, please email. Lots of detail photos below! Enjoy!
