Many of you depend on online classes and internet shopping because you do not have access to stores and classes in your area. Supplies are not readily available to many of you. We have strived to make this not only the first online roombox class, but the most complete roombox kit that we have ever seen offered, online or off!
After many requests, we are offering a second session of our lovely Jewelry Shop roombox class.
Le Petit Bijou is an exquisite Edwardian era jewelry shop. Le Petit Bijou translates to The Little Jewel, and that's exactly what this room box is! See below for more detailed photos.
Cherry wood Box
The scene is set in a beautiful outer box of gorgeous Cherry. plywood. Stained and finished, this wood is positively beautiful.
Inlaid Hardwood floor
The interior of the box features lots of wonderful details, beginning with the floor. We have designed an inlaid wood floor that you will find easy to assemble and finish, and gorgeous to behold. The laser cut inlaid medallion pieces will be pre-stained for you. The colors in the design have been carefully coordinated to the furniture and color scheme of the room. The field planks in the floor are cherry hardwood. The results are a floor that is a piece of art all by itself.
Wallcoverings and Moldings
The walls are covered with an elegant satin finish paper with a mottled pattern of soft taupe, peach and green. Subtle, but rich, the paper makes the perfect backdrop for the setting. All wallpaper, crown moldings, casings, baseboard etc. are included as well as paint for these woodwork pieces.
Extensive Lighting
The back wall features a window which looks out onto a courtyard scene. The side walls features recessed niches and a recessed display area.
This box is entirely lit. There are 4 recessed can lights in the ceiling, as well as recessed can lights in each of the niches and the inset display area. Additionally, three flourette bulbs are hidden behind the back wall to light the exterior scene from the outside in, so that the view out the window is streaming with sunlight. A center canopy is also provided for the addition of a chandelier.
If you have never done lighting, do not panic! All of the wiring, soldering, etc will be done for you. You will simply glue the prewired ceiling into place, drop the bulbs down into the holes for the side niches, and thread two wires on the back around screws for the transformer. All of the difficult steps have been completed for you.
And yes, we are including the transformer in the cost of the class. The chandelier is not included in this class, as many of you may already have a fixture you want to use. However, the chandelier shown is a commercial light fixture that I have altered and embellished. A class for this project will be available separately for those who want to create this particular fixture.
Furniture
Yes, furniture! We designed this roombox specifically around the beautiful Bespaq shop fixtures you see in the photo. And the price of the class and kit includes SEVEN bespaq pieces. The three display cabinets open from the back and are done in a rich mahogany finish which brings out the floor design beautifully. There is a hand carved pedestal in one corner, a lovely chair, an exquisite console table with tons of handcarved details and a handpainted marble top, and a wall mirror. Note that the wall mirror will be mahogany, but can be painted as I did for my box. Nothing compares with the quality and beauty of Bespaq's pieces, and we are proud to be able to include them in our first roombox project.
The jewelry mannequins, and jewelry inside the cases are NOT included in the class. However, I will be offering a series of monthly classes with individual projects to help you fill your shoppe. These will include the displays inside the cases, as well as the mannequins. Fabric has been purchased and set aside for the mannequins and to line the jewelry cases for those who wish to take the classes to create the jewelry. All of the jewelry is made with sterling or gold filled components, vintage and swarovski crystals and antique 22-24/0 beads.
More information will be available on the jewelry classes next month.
The box will be ready to frame. We have not included a frame with the kit, as we assume most student will want to choose their own. However, we will give you instructions on how we took an inexpensive commercial frame, reconfigured it and mounted it to our box. My total cost was 36.00, much more reasonable than the 175.00 estimate from my local Michaels Framing department!
The supplies that students will need to provide as been kept to an absolute minimum. We have worked to provide as much as possible in your kit. We cannot, however, ship aerosol cans, or cans of stain, so there will be a few supplies that you need to provide as well as the most basic of tools. For a list, of required materials, email me.
The outside dimensions of the box are 14 1/2 Deep, 17 5/8 Wide, 12" High
The inside dimensions of the roombox are 11 3/4" deep, 14 1/4" Wide and 11 1/8" High
As always, an exhaustive online tutorial will be provided for each and every step of this project. Additionally, because of the scope of this project a minimum of four online chat sessions will be offered.
This class will be limited in size. All spaces are offered on a first come first serve basis. Kits will begin shipping mid February, 2009.
I hope I have given you all the information you need, but if I have omitted anything, please drop me an email.
