Bring the charm of a 1930s five-and-dime Halloween display to life in miniature! This online class and kit will guide you step-by-step through creating a wonderfully nostalgic 1/12 scale display cabinet filled with the kinds of Halloween novelties and decorations that might have tempted shoppers nearly a century ago.
Inspired by vintage Halloween graphics and merchandise from the 1930s, this project is packed with personality and tiny details. Inside the cabinet you’ll find an assortment of miniature “paper mache-style” trick-or-treat buckets, Halloween lanterns, party hats, noisemakers, candy boxes, lollipops, novelty packaging, decorative figures and more. These designs were inspired by authentic vintage examples, giving the finished display the wonderfully colorful, slightly quirky character that makes early Halloween merchandise so irresistible.
I designed the high-quality 3D-printed items in this project, and you won’t find them anywhere else! As always, our beautiful resin pieces come to you hand cleaned and primed, ready to paint.
You will also assemble and finish the wood display cabinet itself, which is my original design. The laser-cut wood pieces are precisely cut for an accurate fit, and the cabinet includes decorative shelf edging, vintage-style lower panels, a custom Halloween Novelties sign, and hanging decorations that help give the entire piece the feeling of a tiny five-and-dime store display. You will receive three different pairs of artwork to choose from for the lower panels. The finished cabinet measures approximately 7.5” H × 5” W.
One of the things I love most about this project is the variety. There are 3D-printed pieces, dimensional novelties and tiny packages, all brought together in one compact display. The finished piece is colorful and playful without feeling modern, and it captures that wonderful combination of charm, humor and just a little bit of mischief that made vintage Halloween merchandise so memorable.
Instructions will be provided in a complete online tutorial with both photographic and written directions for each and every step. If you have never taken one of our online classes, I encourage you to visit the Past Classes section and read the wonderful reviews our students have left after completing their projects. We also have an FAQ page explaining how the classes work and the many advantages of completing a project using the online class format. Students will provide basic tools, paints, stains and glue.
Because this kit includes a large number of individually produced pieces and 3D-printed items, class size will be limited. I anticipate that we will need approximately three weeks to complete and ship the kits. As always, classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so if this project is something you would enjoy, I suggest registering as soon as possible so you don’t miss out.
